Η BCCI απαγόρευσε τον ιδιοκτήτη του franchise T20 μεταξύ του IPL 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has thrown the book at Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah. The former co-owner of SoBo Supersonics in the Mumbai T20 League, handing him a lifetime ban for a corrupt approach made to ex-India pacer Dhawal Kulkarni and former domestic player Bhavin Thakkar during the league’s 2019 edition. The action stems from findings by the board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and signals another stern warning to those looking to taint the game.
What has been the case against Gurmeet?
Justice (Retd) Arun Mishra, the BCCI Ombudsman, passed the order after reviewing evidence that Bhamrah, acting through a middleman named Sonu Vasan, tried to influence players to fix matches. In Thakkar’s case, transcripts revealed that Vasan offered money and benefits on Bhamrah’s behalf, even assuring that Thakkar’s decision would be relayed directly back to the franchise co-owner.
The approach to Kulkarni—who announced his retirement in March 2024 after leading Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy title—is acknowledged in the order, though its details remain sealed. His statement was recorded by the ACU.
While the official order doesn’t specify the length of the ban, sources suggest that the offence merits a life ban under BCCI’s anti-corruption code. Either way, Bhamrah’s days in cricket administration are over.
Mumbai T20 league to start right after IPL 2025
The T20 Mumbai League is set to return on May 26 after a six-year hiatus, marking its third edition. Featuring eight teams, including new entrants Sobo Mumbai Falcons and Mumbai South Central, the tournament will have 20 matches in total, with each team playing five league games. Icon players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane have been allotted to teams through a draw, each earning ₹15 lakh. Teams will build their squads within a ₹1 crore purse, with a maximum of 18 players. The league’s revival comes after a prolonged break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
